Prague Riverside Cross 2014
On 17 June 2014, Prague’s Náplavka near Jirásek Bridge, the area of the Vyšehrad Boat witnessed an exhibition battle presenting leading national and global athletes from the world of water and other sports.
The fixture was a unique combination of white-water slalom and biathlon shooting on the surface of the river.
A total of 32 professional white-water slalom racers from 11 countries worldwide started in the competition, many of whom are holders of summer Olympic and world championship medals.
Spectators could watch the performances of, e.g. Etienne Daille, Sideris Tasiadis, Alex Slavkovský, Jana Dukátová, Elena Kaliska and Ricarda Funk.
The ranks of Czech athletes included e.g. Jiří Prskavec, Vít Přindiš, Jan Vondra, Stanislav Ježek, Víťa Gebas, Jan Mašek, Kateřina Kudějová and Eva Ornstová.
However, the same course was completed by Olympic gold medallists Eva Samková and David Svoboda, biathlete Michal Šlesinger, ski-cross legend Tomáš Kraus, skier Kryštof Krýzl and snowboard cross rider Michal Novotný.
The race itself included a slide down a three-metre platform onto the water, navigating through 3 downstream and 2 upstream gates, shooting an electronic rifle at biathlon targets and sprinting back to the platform.
Each contestant had five shots. They were required to achieve at least three hits out of the five shots. Each miss was penalised by a 360° turn or a kayak roll.
Double European champion Vít Pindiš fared best in the men’s K1 race. The same women’s category was dominated by Germany’s Funk Ricarda. Lukáš Rohan won the C1 race. Michal Šlesinger ranked first in the category of sport personalities.
Eva Samková, Olympic winner from Sochi, somehow managed to drown her rifle in B final round.
